O New York Times sobre a reação dos Candidatos a presidente dos EUA à renúncia de Fidel Castro, escrevi um comentário.

A reação emocionada
Depois que cliquei no botão enviar, fiquei pensando. Meu texto estava tão emocionado, tão triste, tão desapontado, que, temo, venham a me confundir com um simpatizante terrorista. O que não sou de maneira alguma. Ainda irão aprovar meu texto, vamos ver no que vai dar. Será que serei sequestrada e interrrogada sobre minhas convicções políticas? Ou simplesmente vão me colocar numa lista negra para impedir que um dia pise por lá? De qualquer modo, não tenho planos para isto. E sinto-me aliviada por ter dito algo que ninguém pensou. É esperar pra ver.

Todos os discursos significam a mesma coisa: os EUA dizem que Cuba é o inferno e que Fidel é o diabo. Os EUA reagem como salvadores do mundo. Prometem "ajudar" a todos os oprimidos. Afirmam que Cuba está sofrendo e que entendem isto; que os cubanos estão vivendo em dor e agonia. Querem que todos acreditem como é ruim estar lá.


The english comment
All the speeches mean the same: US still says that Cuba is hell and Fidel is the chief commander of it. US reacts like saviors of the world. They promisse "help" to all the opressed across the globe. They say Cuba is suffering, that cubans are living under pain and sorrow. They want everyone to believe how bad it is there.

But this is not all true. Cuba is a very example of power. Power of making a keeping a decision: not be under the US orders. It is a live show case to tell the whole world that it is possible to be a nation without having US intromission in politics, economics and culture.

There are problems because this is not easy to achieve and mantain.

But you have to go to Cube and see its numbers. You need to see how it would be a place without an american rap in the radio or a Coke in the snack bar. You need to see a place where there is no junk food. Where people think and have their own taste of things.

All the presidential candidates think the same. And my wish that one of them would tell something different was over right on this page. There will be no change in the Empire. Not sooner.
